This summer was one of the hottest I remember and maybe therefore we were not unexpecting to swim in one of the coolest parts of Slovakia. If you visit Slovakia and plan to cool off a little bit in the north, we suggest to take a small hike to Šútovo watefall or swim in a local natural pool in the former stone-pit.
Hike to Šútovo waterfall
Trip from the south is very easy even for the kids, you can park the car near a small cotage „Fatranka“ and walk 1,5 – 2 hours to the waterfall in the middle of mountains. First third of the journey you can walk on a concrete road to the cabin „vodopád – waterfall“ where you can refresh with local beer or national drink Kofola.
Then you continue 45 minutes on a rocky mountain pathway to Šútovo waterfall, which is in 822 metres above sea level and is 38 metres high. Waterfall has strong flow especially during spring, when the snow melts. Do not forget that there is at least 5 degrees celsius less near the waterfall even in hot summer days, so take good clothes and comfortable boots.
Swimming in the stone pit
It is not so usual to swim in natural water in the northern part of Slovakia because the nights are cold here even during the summer, but if you take a trip to Šútovo waterfall do not forget your swimsuit in case you want to refresh in this amazing setting. You might find couple of „beach“ spots and a small bufet near the parking place.
