Piešťany are probably the most popular spas in Slovakia. With more than 30 thousand inhabitants Piešťany is also important cultural, tourist and industry city of the region especially since the growing popularity of the spas in Slovakia.
Spas of Piešťany
Spas in this region were mentioned since 16th century and the position improved in the 19th century when many doctors and balneologist discovered very healthy effects of the local thermal waters. Pieštany spa is specialized for treatment of rheumatic and arthtritic diseases with sulfate and carbonate water (with temperatures of 67–69 °C) and sulfurous mud.

Architecture and sights
Most of the historical buildings were destroyed in the 1813 floods but there are several sacral buildings worth visiting besides clasical buildings of Napoleons spa or Balneology museum. In the city sign you might see a person braking a walking stick and you can find this statue on one of the bridges.
There is lot of nice green parks in the city and it one of the cities in Slovakia where cycling is more popular than cars 😉

Piešťany offers several pubs and restaurants, if you like fish you might try Rybársky dvor and if prefer cozy atmosphere with interesting design try BLUE’S on Staničná street.
Where to go for a trip?
Piešťany are just few steps away from many interesting places. You might visit leaning tower Vrbové or small copy of the New Zealand Hobbit scenery near zoofarma Modrová. If you love history and castles, just a half an hour drive you might visit castle Čachtice or Beckov. If you enjoy music and outdoor summer festivals, watch out for Duchonka or Horná streda (Hip-Hop).
