Tiny and mountainous Slovakia has more than 2 thousand caves and offers visitors dozen of caves accessible for public. You can admire the beauty of Belianska cave, Bystrianska cave, Demänova caves, Domica, Driny, Gombasecká, Harmanecká, Jasovská, Važecká and Ochtinská Aragonite cave. Dobšinská ice cave
You can find a fairytale ice kingdom is located approximately 920 meters above sea level. More than 100 thousand of cubic meters of ice makes walls which are at some places thick 26 meters. The temperature is even in the hottest summer months just slightly above freezing point the cave used to serve as a practice ice rink for skaters. During the tour you might see extraordinary ice sculptures, frozen waterfalls and pools on nearly half kilometre long track.
Domica
Domica cave is located in region of Rožňava special for rich archaeological findings (sacred places with charcoal drawings, spear pike old more than 35 thousand years etc.) and various types of bats. It is decorated by many sinter peaks. Except of Christmas the cave is open for public all year long.
Gombasecká cave
Stalactite Gombasecká cave is also close to Rožňava and the entrance lies in altitude of 250 meters above sea level. It is one of the youngest Slovak caves nevertheless there is amazing sinter decoration in various colours. There are several meters long straws 2-3 mm wide which make this cave quite unique. The cave was used as a sanatorium for breathing problems because of permanent temperature 9°C, relative humidity 98% and very healthy mineral effects.
Jasovská cave
Jasovská cave is located in the eastern part of Slovak carst near river Bodva. Beautiful sinter decoration consist of many different types. There were bones of cave bear and hyena found and today it is home for many different types of bats. The cave is long nearly 3 kilometers and the visitors have to take more than 300 steps during the 45 minutes long tour.
Ochtinská aragonite cave
It is the only one in Europe and one of three globally public accessible aragonite caves (the other two are in South America). If you visit caves regularly do not expect traditional stalactites. Small cave in the region of Revúca mountains offers magical stone flowers, clusters and bunches. There are many star shaped formations on the roof called milky way. The cave itself is made of calcite, the decoration is made of aragonite. The tour is cca 300 meters long and takes around half an hour.
